Overview
Both live under the Pemasaran (Marketing) menu, and both reduce the price. But they solve different problems, and picking the wrong one makes more work than it saves.
The easiest way to tell them apart:
- A Discount is a simple reduction the cashier picks during a sale. No conditions, no schedule.
- A Promotion is a rule that runs itself: active on certain dates, for certain products, under certain conditions.
If all you need is "sometimes give 10% off", use a Discount. If you need "buy 2 get 1 free every Friday until month end", use a Promotion.
Discounts
Open Pemasaran → Diskon.
- Add a discount and give it a name. For example:
Diskon Lebaran. - Choose Tipe Diskon (discount type): Persentase (%) or Nominal (Rp).
- Enter the Nilai (value) — the percentage, or the rupiah amount.
- Save.
Saved discounts appear as options on the register screen, in the Diskon & Promo Tersedia panel.
Name discounts after their reason, not just their size. Staff Discount 20% is far easier to account for in reports than a bare 20% Off.
Promotions
Open Pemasaran → Promo. Every promotion has a name, description, start date, end date, and a usage cap you can set. The system also counts how many times it has been used.
The Six Promotion Types
Direct Discount
A price reduction with conditions. You set the percentage or amount, a maximum discount cap, a minimum spend, and what it applies to: everything, one category, or one specific product.
Example: 15% off the Drinks category, capped at Rp 20,000, minimum spend Rp 50,000.
Buy X Get Y
Buy a certain number of one product, get another free. You define the product and quantity to be bought, and the product and quantity given.
Example: buy 2 iced lattes, get 1 toast free.
Bundle
Several products sold together at one package price. You list the products and quantities, the normal total, and the bundle price.
Example: fried rice + iced tea, normally Rp 35,000, bundled at Rp 28,000.
Cashback
The customer gets money back rather than an upfront reduction. You set the percentage or amount, a minimum spend, and a maximum cashback cap.
Example: 10% cashback on spends over Rp 100,000, capped at Rp 25,000.
Flash Sale
A discount that only lives during set hours on set days. You choose the participating products, the discount percentage, a start time, an end time, and which days it is active.
Example: 30% off all bread, daily from 20:00 to 22:00 before closing.
Quantity Discount
The more they buy, the bigger the reduction. You set a minimum quantity and the size of the discount, as a percentage or an amount.
Example: buy 5 or more, take Rp 2,000 off each item.
Promotion Statuses
Every promotion has a status that decides whether it shows up at the register:
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Aktif (Active) | Running now and visible at the register |
| Terjadwal (Scheduled) | Created, but the start date has not arrived |
| Tidak aktif (Inactive) | Deliberately switched off |
| Kedaluwarsa (Expired) | The end date has passed |
Create promotions ahead of time and leave them Scheduled rather than switching them on by hand mid-rush. A promotion nobody remembered to enable is an avoidable customer complaint.
Voucher Codes
A promotion can carry voucher codes, so only people who know the code get the reduction. Useful for targeted offers: returning customers, partnerships, or making up for a complaint.
On the promotion page, open the Kode Voucher section then Tambah Kode Baru (add new code):
- Enter the code. For example:
LEBARAN2026. - Enter a usage limit. Leave it blank for unlimited.
- Pick an expiry date for the code.
Always set a usage limit on codes you distribute widely. An unlimited code that spreads on social media can be redeemed far more often than you planned for.
